We had a tremendous night at Romford on Friday with Patchys Kerry’s semi final win in the Coral Coronation Stakes the highlight of the meeting.
I said on RPGTV last week that I thought she was a good each way bet at 25-1 to win the competition. Those don’t look bad odds now.
“It was a good night for those punters who follow the kennel. I had previously said that I thought Ribble Aon would go close in the Coronation Stakes and she was unlucky in the first round.
But she more than made up for it on Friday. Apparently she opened at 9-2 and was smashed all the way down to 7-4.
As most people who know me are aware, I am not a big punter but I did have a Yankee on our four. Ribble Aon won at 7-4, Patchys Kerry returned at 5-1, Oldfield Lynda got home by a short head at 5-1, but Swift Whirlwind finished second. Isn’t it always the way that the shortest priced one 6-4f) gets beaten.
“Given the draw and the times in the semi, Jet Stream Sound is the one they all have to beat. Overall, for a category two competition, it is as good as most ‘Cat 1s’.”
Looking ahead, the Prestige at Hall Green is the next target. Billys Bullet is due to trial at Towcester again tonight (Saturday) and then we are off to Hall Green.
We are also considering Garyglass Pixie as a possible runner, and possibly Patchys Kerry, though I won’t make definite plans until after Wednesday.
We are also likely to have a runner in the Springbok. He is a young dog called Supreme Turbo who has been schooled for me by Ricky Holloway.
Turbo was brought for a syndicate with Johnjo O’Neill and a group of jockeys, and unlike a lot of owners, they didn’t seem too perturbed by having a hurdler.
He had a fight on the flat but had some ability on the flat and Ricky has done a good job with him. He will be back as soon as he has finished his clearing trials. He’s probably no Cornamaddy Jumbo but you never know.
Our thoughts have been with our kennelman Sid Huett who had been off for a few days this week. His dad,Terry, died following illness and it has obviously been quite for the family. Terry was a very nice guy; it’s a great shame.
