Kelly Macari reports Ballymac Matt came out Saturday’s Derby heat qualifier in great shape after recording the fifth fastest time every over Derby course, and just 10 spots outside Eden The Kid’s track record.
She said: “As soon as he came out of the kennel you knew everything was fine. We would have settled for two qualifying places, so to have won his heats has been a bonus. We knew that it could have been tricky if Roxholme Barkley had come away, but we couldn’t have been happier with Matt.
“We have no control over the draw and have to take what we get. Ideally though, we wouldn’t really want the one, it is very tight on those rails.”
