Litter brothers Signet Denver and Goofy members of the January 2020 litter of Magical Bale and Forest Natalee stole the show on a memorable night at Perry Barr. Denver was simply sensational in landing the category one Laurels Final for trainer Kevin Hutton and owner Tony Brealey whilst full brother Goofy battled hard to hold off the late challenge of kennel mate Ballymac Slapup to land The Good News At Stud sprint final for trainer John Mullins and owners Chris Waters and Lee Calcutt.
Kevin Hutton told me “We were absolutely thrilled to win the Laurels for the first time. It’s a competition steeped in history with many great winners and tradition. It was made even sweeter with Denver being a home bred greyhound. He deserved to win a big one having just been beaten in the BGBF Puppy Cup on the line and a poor draw scuppered his chance in the English Puppy Derby Final. He loves Perry Barr though and after he won a puppy stake there last year we always had this competition in mind for him. He’ll now head to the English Derby where he’ll hopefully give ourselves and owner Tony Brealey some more excitement along the way”.
John Mullins was delighted with his kennel one two in the final of The Good News At Stud sprint. He told me “There was nothing between our pair at the finish and we’re delighted with the result. Both dogs performed to the best of their capabilities and that’s all you can ask. I’m delighted with them both and pleased with the win for Chris and Lee who have been long time supporters of the kennel”.
