Kilmore Lemon made it eight wins from seventeen starts with another demonstration of brute early pace in Hove’s sprint on Thursday night.
The Patrick Janssens trained Feb ’16 pup (Taylors Sky – Lemon Lucy) was reminiscent of joint track record holders Jimmy Lollie and Target Harris (15.89) as he motored past the faster trapping Droopys Blink (winner on debut last week) to take control by the bend. The time of 16.17 (-10), considering he took a few strides to get going, ties in with his pre-Christmas 16.01 over C&D.
Having first come to prominence with a series of fast wins over Romford’s 400 last year (best 23.55 +20) he helped his handler to finish 2017 on a massive high: a first ever top six finish in the Trainer of the Year standings.
Kennelhand Pete Vernon quite rightly views it as a massive achievement given their relatively small set up, but will there will be a Trainers’ Championship meeting at which to show off their sprinting star? See Pete Harnden’s separate item on here for his thoughts and latest news on that. A more immediate target is the Lol Jones Memorial night at Monmore on February 7th, and Vernon will be taking him up for a prep trial next week.
••Clash, June Harvey’s Olympic finalist, who has enjoyed a purple patch round home track Hove over recent weeks, is taking a short rest to recharge his batteries. Owner Debbie Williams said “he’s run his little socks off for us and is absolutely bouncing, but June and I agreed it’s the right time to give him a little break as he deserves it. We love him to bits and hoping for some more fun this year!”
