The ladies dominate the Perry Barr trainer’s table for the first six months of the year. With 156 successes to date, Louise Eccles has virtually double the number of winners of two closes rivals Carol Evans (86) and Jayne Meek (85) though the latter boasts the best strike rate of 21%.

Carla Hendy’s Cloncunny Ardera gave Horseshoe Ping’s 2007 sprint clock a bit of a shake in The Love The Dogs Dash at Perry Barr on Friday. Trapping in front, the Sep 13 black was two lengths ahead at the first, four clear at the second, and came home a six length winner from Maum Express in 15.85 (N), the second fastest time ever recorded over the 275m trip. This takes Cloncunny’s UK career record to 17 wins and 14 2nds from 52 races, with 8 wins from 20 races at Perry Barr.
Later in the evening, Diane Cross’s Shaneboy Mort maintained his 100% record at the Barr with an authoritative display in The Love Dogs Standard. Railing well and showing good early to lead at the first, the Jul 13 blue was always in control thereafter, stopping the clock in a very fair 28.34 (+10). The son of Shaneboy Maria is a half brother to Liz McNair’s Shaneboy Spencer and Joe Scanlon’s Shaneboy William.
On the trainer front, Derek Deakin, under the stewardship of Chick Hicken, has joined Perry Barr from Doncaster, bringing with him both a wealth of experience and a kennel of useful dogs. Also new to the Barr, having just taken out his GT licence is Holywell, Clwyd based Tony Harmes. Tony is looking to run a “small but select” kennel from his North Wales base. The new arrivals will offset the recent departure of Gary Griffiths to Belle Vue James Danahar from Tirley has been awarded a training contract in recognition of his efforts over the past 9 months.
