Three heat winners, including fastest fastest qualifier Kooga Klammer and the beaten ante post favourite will meet in the toughest of the three Romford Puppy Cup semi finals next Friday.
Punters were undecided between three runners in the opening heat but failed to consider the prospects of Martyn Wiley’s locally trained Gable Tango (Ballymac Eske-Affection, Mar 15) running from trap four and about to return at 7-2.
Wiley completed a double in the second heat courtesy of Tango’s litter sister Too Tone Eileen (Ballymac Eske-Affection, Mar 15) who was available at 6-1 when bolting clear from stripes.
Kooga Klammer (Roxholme Bully-Millbrook Gaga, Dec 14) had been beaten in his two previous visits to the track, but the Dave Pruhs trained runner was still returned as the strong 11-10f when making all in the third heat which was also the fastest of the night, 23.82.
June McCombe seldom travels without a chance and the Belle Vue handler would have been well satisfied with the performance of 10-1 chance Unlikely Turbo (Razldazl Jayfkay-Unlikely Mist, Oct 14) in the fourth heat. The white jacketed runner came home four clear of ante post favourite Charity Dragon (T6).
The kennel’s second runner Bellagio Blue (T3 7-2) was treated with a little more respect in the fifth heat, but he had to play second best to Tony Taylor’s Droopys Jasmine (Mall Brandy-Express Trend, Oct 14). Running in black, the 6-1 chance seem to relish the 115 fewer metres from her regular outings in A4 at Hove.
The final heat saw Toolmaker Rambo (Aero Majestic-Droopys Solange, Oct 14) reverse form with brother Droopys Schnozz following a recent clash in a £500 puppy final. On this occasion, the brother in blue (7-4) beat the brother in black (11-8f) and were separated by Dark Recruit (T1).
