With the £7,500 Nottingham Stadium Puppy Classic due to close on Thursday, the last of the trialstakes drew plenty of attention on Monday night. King Kid (Droopys Scolari-Shaws Dilemma, Dec 14) was the focus of most attention as he attempted to extend his unbeaten Colwick Park sequence to three.
It was a ‘loads of class, green as grass’ performance as the black jacketed 4-6f, running in just his fifth race, swerved wide at the boxes, seemed unsure whether he was rails, middle or wide but had enough pace to clear Caherina Piper (T3 8-1) for a 30.33 victory having left many lengths on the course.
In terms of times, Angie Kibble’s Let Me Tell You (Kinloch Brae-Coolavanny Cushy, Nov 14) had the edge with a more refined display. Drawn red, the 5-2 chance was narrowly headed at the split by Kid’s litter brother King Eden (T5 2-1f) but had the experience to take the shorter route at the bend. He eventually won by two and a quarter in 30.17 (+20) from locally trained Pointless Pearloma.
The highly rated Bubbly Bluebird was among a string of Classic probables to trial before racing. Paul Young’s blue clocked 29.89 (+20). Selected others (all +20): 29.97 Thinkingofdarcy, 30.01 Vatican Venice, 30.08 Truly A Legend, 30.20 Broadway Scout, 30.33 Garryglass Teddy, Romeo Talent.
Elsewhere on the card, Dave Pruhs landed a treble included both £500 finals. 4-1 chance Swords Wizard (Zero Ten-Hare St Sparkler, Oct 13) held off Maglass Razzle by a neck in 30.03 (+20) for the 500m. Over the sprint, 8-1 shot Bigmans Mac (Head Bound-Cornamaddy Daisy, Oct 13) brought his good recent Peterborough form to Nottingham with a career best 17.78 (+10).
The treble was completed in fine style by a pup young enough to contest the Classic – Kooga Klammer (Roxholme Bully-Millbrook Gaga, Dec 14) who justified 5-4 favouritism with a 28.85 (+20) seven length win over the 480m trip.
