Patchys Kerry was only five spots outside the Sheffield 500m track record when winning her semi final of the Pinpoint Recruitment Three Steps To Victory as two of her main rivals fell by the wayside.
The Ladbrokes Golden Jacket winner went to trap four as 2-1jf with Mustang Chick (T3). Kerry trapped level with Clver Jamie (T4) who was outpaced to the bend as Kerry (4.21) led up from Coolboy Blitz (4.29). At the first bend it was 4-1-2 and that was the order it remained to the winning line with Kerry beating 8-1 chances Clonkeen Snowy (T1) and Thirteen Bags (T2) by six and then one and a quarter. Kerry clocked 28.49, a time only bettered by track record holder Boher Paddy, and La Maqina (28.48) and equalled by Ballymac Mossjoe.
Roxholme Hottie (T1) went to traps as the 6-4f in the second semi, but was doomed to be eliminated. The early part of the race was dominated by Catrigg Croft (T4) with Satin Mark (Ace Hi Rumble-Kingsmill Athena, Apr 13) in blue and in pursuit. The writing was on the wall by the last bend and the Kinsley pair Satin Mark and Viking Jack (T6) swept past. The winner crossed the beam in 28.97 with distances a length and a head.
