Thursday night sees the return to racing of the two Hazel Kemp stars Slippy Maska and Slippy Maggie on Yarmouth’s East Anglian Challenge support card.
The pair came in season eight days apart in late April. Marathon star Maska is 15 weeks out of season and goes in the 843 metre contest. Henlow Gold Cup winner Maggie, who is eight days behind in preparation, is drawn trap five in the 659m contest.
Hazel said: “We had a spell where all the bitches came in season within just over a week of each other. Maggie had to be withdrawn from the second round of the Regency.
“They have both trialled well but we know they will both need a couple of runs before we can expect to see them at anywhere near their best.
“Bitches coming back from season can be a bit unpredictable, but at some stage between 16 to 18 weeks, you hope they will be thereabouts.
“I think Indian Beauty looks the one to beat in the marathon and trap five is far from ideal from Maggie, but at least both races will be a guide to how far forward they are.
The kennel also field the anticipated outsider in the final of the Greene King IPA East Anglian Challenge, You Little Jimbo.
Hazel said: “He has a lot to find on the clock. He is a decent dog but he can’t stay the 480m and he runs as wide as the track is, neither of which makes him ideal for Towcester.
“Yarmouth is narrower and shorter which suits him. He is up against it, but could give them a run as the only wide runner. We’ll be switching him to Romford shortly which will suit him a lot better.”
