Juvenile Derby winner Anopheles justified 5-4 favouritism in the final of the John & Mary Downing Memorial Stake over 570 yards at Tralee on Friday.
Liam Dowling’s runner, who was close to the track record in the second round, was soon clear in the £2,500 decider and went on to beat Killeacle Tommy by two lengths in 30.82sec.
The win will be special for the trainer, as the race was run in memory of his late parents, who used to race their greyhounds with the Killeacle prefix.
The dog makes a quick reappearance in the heats of the Gain 600 at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.
