Queen Joni rubber stamped the Produce Stakes form with a stunning win in the opening heats of the Premier Greyhound Racing (English) Oaks at Perry Barr.
The British bred pup had her race within her grasp within the first few strides and came home eight lengths clear of her field in 27.90. Only track record holder Coolavanny Shadow (27.77) and Oaks winner Slick Sakina (27.85) went quicker last year. It was a seventh win in ten races for Liz McNair’s pup.
The only other runner to break 28.00 was Nathan Hunt’s Antigua Bingo (27.99), the first leg of a double for the kennel. There was also a double for Barry Denby from two runners with greatly varying running styles, Keane, whose sectional was a spot quicker than Joni’s, and the powerful Bellmore Lola.
Trainers are reminded that any applications for a change of seeding must be submitted to the Perry Barr Racing Office by 11am on Monday morning.
