The good news story of the week concerned the return to racing of the ever popular Southfield Jock.
The Seamus Cahill trained black contested his first race since finishing lame at Yarmouth last September where won a heat of the East Anglian Derby but sustained a damaged hock. Looking somewhere back to his best, Jock ran local sprint specialist Swift Watson to three quarters of a length in 16.30 (-10).
Trainer Seamus Cahill said: “He has come off sound thankfully. I was always quite hopeful. Daniel Docherty carried out the operation and the displacement was not too bad. He was also a perfect patient.
“He will now go to Poole on Tuesday and we’ll take it from there. He is nearly four now and we wouldn’t run him unless he was 110%.”
Jock ran from trap one (6-4) with Swift Watson (5-4f) in trap six.
