Newcastle trainer Jimmy Wright had stated that he intends to make a full on return to open racing this year and one of the greyhounds expected to lead the charge from his Alnwick base, Maum Legend, is getting ready for a return to action.

Things didn’t go quite right for the highly-rated dog last year, finishing third in the All England Cup final and runner-up in the Eclipse, and he has been given a break since his Nottingham effort in November. However, Wright has entered the dog for a sprint trial at Newcastle on Thursday and he is likely to have at least another two-bend sharpener next week. An early target could be the Pin Point Invitation at Newcastle on Tuesday, February 3, but Scotsman Wright will be working on a plan that will take him back across the border at the RPGTV Scottish Derby, which starts at Shawfield on Saturday, April 11.
