Despite a newly re-laid surface at the Sheffield venue which perhaps put some off bidding wary of the times, it couldn’t stop people being hugely impressed by the run of Epic Jet who stopped the clock in an excellent 27.67.

Just a Jan’21 dog bred Ballyhimikin Jet x Hugh Dream, the young dog showed plenty of greenness yet showed huge pace down the back to win his trial by 2 1/2 lengths. The track record of 27.27 at Sheffield has been held by Roxholme Kristof and was never in doubt but those watching could only be wowed by what seemed a superb run for a puppy. Unsurprisingly, he sold in the room for £5,600 to Jimmy Gaskin and looks set for a career destined at the very top.

In the same trial was Amazing Guy and he still clocked a very decent 27.88 behind the aforementioned rival. The son of Good News sold for £3500 and too will look set for a promising career now in new hands.

Of the 500m trialists, those that attracted the most interest in the ring included Easy Gadjet, a Feb’21 son of Droopys Sydney and Lear Avarjo. He won his trial by 9 lengths when clocking a time of 29.23 and subsequently sold for £4250. Set to start his career at Nottingham with Stewart Pedder, he will soon follow the others in the upcoming puppy competitions no doubt.

Magical Eleanor was too in demand after her 29.38 run and the daughter of the fabulous Skywalker Logan eventually sold online for £2800. Another bitch that saw plenty of bidding come her way was Springview Lass (Eden The Kid x Mean Beauty) who sold for £3600. She ran to a creditable 29.76 but stayed on well and looks a potential stayer for the future.

Overall on the day, sales totalled to £40,400 and 26 of the 36 lots on offer were sold (72%).

The next Greyhound Trader sales will be an Online Auction this coming weekend (19th-21st August) and following that will be a track sales at the highly anticipated Oxford Stadium on Tuesday September 13th.
