It is with great sadness that I was informed yesterday that Ms Jenny Bunting founder and matriarch of Brighton and Hove RGT had passed away on 29th August.
Jenny year on year rehomed over 100 greyhounds from her relatively small purpose built kennels at Twineham, W. Sussex. No dog was ever refused entry, and Jenny would often search the local papers and “rescue” greyhounds advertised as “free to a good home”. This often involved her in welfare investigation cases, where her professional evidence was often crucial. Her work was recognised widely in the welfare sector, and she received many awards and nominations from her peers.
As a qualified vet, she provided veterinary care to the hounds in the kennels, continuing even after her retirement, thereby saving thousands of pounds to the charity. Jenny also supported the kennels financially when needed, at some personal cost..
For many years she owned dogs with Derek Knight, and until increasing frailty stopped her, she was a regular attendee at racing at Hove., She was extremely popular with owners sharing her vast knowledge and experience, and updating them on the current situation with their hounds.
Jenny is sadly missed by all that knew her, and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
