Puppy Classic Ante Post Preview
The JenningsBet Puppy Classic gets underway at Nottingham this evening with some future stars of the track on show.
Five of the 31 runners are under 10/1 to win the competition. They are headed by March On Freddie who has been faultless in two trial stakes so far. He is 3/1 best to win the competition with Missile One and Syd Zafiro 4/1, Rioja Bungle 7/1 and another under 10/1 is Fire and Ice who is 8/1 top price.
My first selection for the competition is Droopys Extragud who is as big as 20/1. He finished third in the Genco Group Juvenile Classic at Towcester recently and also made the final of the Arena Racing Company Puppy Cup at Sunderland so he knows how to make big finals. He has been handed a very generous first-round heat so barring a miracle he should be in next week’s semi-final with three qualifying from tonight’s heat. At 20/1, he looks a fair price.
My next selection is Skeard Josie at 50/1. She is another who has been handed what should be a comfortable passage into next week’s semi-final. In fact, she is expected to be odds-on in tonight’s heat. She is lightly raced but has some eye-catching runs in defeat at Towcester. They include a neck defeat to Droopys Rosie in a more than reasonable time. 50/1 for a bitch with plenty of early pace looks a fair bet for each way punters.
My final selection is March On Freddie at 11/4 WIN ONLY to make a small profit. This pup is getting better with each run at the track. Being a wide seed is always going to get a nice draw so it’s extremely difficult to look past March On Freddie. He should comfortably qualify this evening from the first round.
