Ballymac Jake (Ninja Jamie-Galtee Ellie, Jul 13), made full use of the rules to land his second maiden open at Nottingham on Monday.The 4-7 chance beat Sneezys Saver by five lengths in 28.88 (N).
Richard Devenish’s blue had been entered for the event just hours before winning his first maiden at Wimbledon and a fortnight after landing the £2,500 Lawrence Brothers Inter-track final at the same track. His winning sequence now stands at five.
In the next race, Damson Jam (Droopys Scolari-Dalcash Tara, Apr 13) returned to four bends and extended his winning sequence to six races.
Jim Hayton’s 11-10f soon led from red and then held off Oscar Supreme (T2) by a yard and a half in 28.79 (N). The event was a heat of a British bred open race stake. The other qualifier went to Lyn Cook’s Leos Eclipse (Collision-Fabulous Shiraz, Jul 13) with a three length win over Highfire Eagle in 28.82.
But Peterborough handler Devenish was back in the winning circle later in the meeting when taking the £500 Standard Final with Mustang Major (David Bale-Mustang Halo, Sep 13). The race lived up to its billing as a competitive event with Major leading home the other 6-4jf Fred The Shred by a neck.
The fastest 480 of the meeting was the 28.79 posted by Charlie Lister’s Coolavanny Slip when beating Swords Wizard by just under three lengths.
