Charlie Lister landed one of Nottingham’s sweepstake finals and set sights on another two with an open race treble on Monday night.
The night’s most lucrative winner was Pennys Rock (Daves Mentor-Deanridge Di, Aug 13) in the £500 Stadium Bookmakers Sprint. A 17.60 qualifier, the blue jacketed 4-7f was made to work for every metre from a determined Newinn Smash but held on by half a length in 17.98 (N).
Lister’s other two winners were Mottos Mixer (4-5f) when winning a 680 metre heat by a neck from Boherna Pedro in 42.09 (+30) and Rafas Wee Jet (6-4f) who landed a 480m qualifier in 29.05 (+20) from Turbo Daniel. But both will have their work cut out to land their respective deciders.
Mixer was eclipsed by Clever Jamie (4-7f) who extended his unbeaten Nottingham sequence to four with a near eight length win from Kilfane King in 41.81 (+30). Sean Davy’s dog now has the four fastest 680s recorded at the track this year.
Jet also faces an uphill task in next week’s decider where Oscarsupreme will have plenty of supporters. Richard Devenish’s 7-2 chance beat his kennelmate Farloe Brae by two and a half lengths in 28.68 (+20). The third qualifier went to another Peterborough hound in Ballymac Frankel (7-1) whose winning time was 29.19 (+20).
Steve Race had no luck in the 480s where La Maqina (4-7f) finished last behind Sarah Spillane’s Frankel but he had the consolation of winning the £400 dual distance final with 6-4 chance Ballymac Elvis (Tullymurry Act-Ballymac Sky, Sep 14). The white suited pup had almost three lengths to spare over Graigues Auverne in 30.20 (+20) for the 500 metres.
Other winner on the night included a first open victory for August puppies Lowgate Belatrix (29.33-480m) and Gracies Rocket (29.26-480m), plus sprint wins for Quivers Lima (17.81) and Laughing Gravy (17.87).
