GREYHOUND TRADER are set to host their latest online auction over the coming weekend and the bidding will no doubt be dominated by the star studded entry of Irish superstar Scaglietti.

A February 2021 whelp, Scaglietti was unbeaten through the first 3 rounds of the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby (recording times of 29.26, 29.26 and 29.27) before more recently beating Ballinabola Ed over 575y in Irish Derby Final night.

Bidding for the son of Magical Bale will commence at 6pm on Friday and close at 6pm on Sunday, and the first bid will start at no less than £15,000 for a greyhound that will unsurprisingly carry a high reserve tag.

Elsewhere in the auction too is the winner of the Michael Fortune Memorial Derby Plate in Blastoff Mac, the reigning Tipperary Cup winner Pape Di Oro and also a younger-sister to St Leger hopefuls Ballymac Katie and Ballymac Taylor.

James Corden from Greyhound Trader said “Since starting the online auctions in 2021, I think this is without question of doubt the best catalogue of greyhounds in terms of quality. I was a bit shocked to receive the high-profile entry of Scaglietti, but it is something to be excited about and hopefully there will be a buyer for him.”

The 25 entries are now confirmed:

Corden added “This is by far and away the best overall standard of greyhounds entered into an online auction yet. Two winners and a runner-up on Irish Derby final night highlight that and with over 40 entries, I have even left off a 28.52 SPK greyhound as I think it is important to offer a range of greyhounds for all rather than just concentrating on the top-end market. That being said, the inclusion of Scaglietti is a big one and I think we all know it will take a large sum to tempt the owner to part with him but hopefully we can do that.”

Bidding will take place on www.greyhoundtrader.com between Friday 6pm-Sunday 6pm (September 8-10).

SCAGLIETTI

  • Since Greyhound Trader started their online auctions back in 2021, this may possibly be the best greyhound to appear yet that I’ve had the pleasure of previewing. A February 2021 whelp, Scaglietti is a ready-made competition greyhound who would no doubt be a major contender in all Category One competitions from 480m-575m or the likes of the upcoming Laurels and St Leger on Irish soil. A recent Irish Derby quarter finalist, who went unbeaten until his elimination (winning in 2926, 2926 and 2927), he most recently showcased his ability over 575y on Derby final night when picking up Ballinabola Ed late on in a scarcely believable time of 3085. A former Con & Annie Kirby Memorial finalist too, Scaglietti won’t come cheap but in the right hands he will be a force to reckon with there’s no doubt.

BLASTOFF MAC

  • A March 2021 son of Grangeview Ten who’s most recent outing was when winning the Irish Derby Plate final at HQ on Derby final night. Showing smart early pace, the 76lb fawn was brave at the bend to clear the field and went on to win impressively in 2950 over 550y. Another one for those looking for a ready-made competition greyhound.

PAPE DI ORO

  • Reigning Tipperary Cup champion, Pape Di Oro is another greyhound of the highest order to be presented on the Greyhound Trader online site. Just turned 2 years old, this son of Droopys Sydney and Trusted Exile has recorded some sensational times on his card including 2829 Limerick, 2839 Clonmel, 2835 Thurles and then 2822 at SPK when runner up in the AA0 525 supporting race on Irish Greyhound Derby final night. Whoever purchases this greyhound will be heading straight into competition territory and he could take some stopping between 450-480m similarly to his older brother Ivanexile.

BALLYMAC MADGIE

  • Unraced July 2022 bitch pup out of track superstar and now also proven brood Ballymac Arminta who accounts for Corn Cuchulainn winner Kinturk Road and Seasons Scaffolding puppy cup winner Ballymac John from her last litter. Whilst there was of course plenty of hope for Madgie going into her first qualifying trial, there were some excited faces in Tralee after she ran out a 7 length winner in 2943. Such a time indicates that Madgie is another special graduate of the Ballymac breeding establishment and one suspects she won’t come cheap with a future brood career sure to pay back some of that initial outlay.

BALLYMAC BINGLEY

  • Unraced July 2022 dog by one of the most promising stud dogs around Ballymac Cashout and out of Jaytee Pearl who is the dam of Puppy Oaks and Cork Oaks winner Ballymac Run. A specimen of a greyhound, Bingley checked ferociously in his qualifying trial but still won convincingly by 5 lengths in a very smart 2957. The question remains however as to what run he would’ve done and for one so young any sort of improvement will see him competing at the highest level across the shores.

BALLYMAC LOLLS

  • Unraced July 2022 bitch who is sure to be popular amongst the UK bidders. Out of super brood Ballymac Merkle, who in her last litter has produced two of the most exciting stayers to come in Ballymac Katie and Ballymac Taylor. Despite Lolls turning in the traps at her very first ever attempt in the traps, she was tried again in the very next trial and completed the circuit in 2999. By no means a bad run, but don’t count on her over 4-bends as this lady is yet another one for 6-bends just like her sisters and at only 14 months old it is impossible to know the limits of this young lady.

STATE MINT

  • An August 2021 dog who fits the bill of early pace wins the race. Just last month he won a €2000 stake at Tralee over 500y, producing two runs of the highest quality in the Semi-Final and Final when smashing from the lids to lead and make all. Then just last weekend, ahead of the upcoming Irish Laurels, Mint went 2nd fastest of the trial session when stopping the clock in a magnificent 2828. Sure to win opens for fun in England with the likes of Romford or Oxford most suitable for his style of running.

STONEPARK MOLLY

  • A stunning white and blue Ballymac Bolger bitch who lit up Shelbourne Park last week when winning in FTOTD 2850. Molly showed electric early pace to make the bend in 205 and the May 2021 lady just drew away from the field to win by 8 lengths. To win at SPK is hard, but to win by 8 lengths is very impressive and she will be another to grace the Open Class scene in the UK particularly at a track like Oxford or Romford.

LUCKY CHLOE

  • March 2022 daughter of Droopys Sydney who on debut at Tralee won in a smart time of 2873. To make things more impressive, Chloe beat Ballymac Camilla by 1.5L who has since been bought and recorded times of 2893 Newcastle and 2868 Monmore. This opens the question as to what Chloe could achieve, and the fact is that she would prove to be a high class addition to any open racing kennel with a tilt at the upcoming English Oaks a potential starting point.

ROANNA LUCAS

  • October 2021 dog by Good News out of Roanna Bess who herself was a top-class performer in Ireland with 2829 SPK to her name. Lucas made his debut on Monday night at Enniscorthy where he tore aport the field to win by 9 lengths in a calculated 2884. A huge run on debut, there’s no doubting this is a dog with plenty of ability to match his brother Boylesports Bob who has a race won in SPK in 2804.

AMAZING QUEST

  • November 2021 son of Good Cody who has won his last two outings at Clonmel. Over 525y he did it the hard way to take over proceedings at the last corner to win in 2891. Upped to 550y the next time, he broke smarter to make all the running and win again in 3027. His 4.20 sectional puts him right up there with the best including Romeo Magico and next time out back over a shorter distance and with a middle seed, I predict that we would be talking about a faster performance shown to date.

GRACEBRIDGE JET

  • Unraced December 2021 dog by new sire on the block Newinn Taylor and out of Boyneside Peggy who has thrown some smart performers in her past litter. A 79lb dog, Jet was last seen trialling at SPK two weeks ago where he won his trial in 19.11 over the sprint trip. An impressive performance indeed, and connections are taking him back to SPK on Friday for what they are hoping will be a big run over 525y. If doing the run I’m being told, there will be no shortage of interest on Jet who qualifies for the likes of the Oxford Cowley Puppy Collar and the Towcester English Puppy Derby.

TOMMYS VICTORY

  • Unraced April 2022 dog who at the very first time of asking produced a breathtaking 2895 trial at Cork. Not to be taken lightly, this was a serious run for a dog at just 16 months old and he is an exciting prospect for potential bidders especially being that he qualifies for both the Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle and the £20,000 Monmore Puppy Derby. Two competitions of the highest quality in which it is hard to secure a runner in, it might be worth getting in there early and taking real consideration into Tommys Victory.

DROMANA MEG

  • Unraced April 2022 bitch who similarly to the aforementioned Tommys Victory was last seen trialling at Cork where she won her trial in a fabulous 2908. Running rails to middle, the handy white and blue lass has already come on a bundle from her previous 2999 Kilkenny trial and there is no knowing where the improvement will stop for one so young.

ROANNA GINGER

  • Unraced December 2021 bitch by Dorotas Wildcat out of Mixed Model, who was one of the very few bitches to get the better of Irish staying superstar Dana Point when beating her by a huge 10.5L in the 2nd round of the Cambridgeshire competition over 750y at Limerick. In 3 trials to date, Ginger hasn’t disappointed with 1919 at Enniscorthy and 2899 at Newbridge standing out. One suspects that 4 bends won’t be Gingers game and so here’s an opportunity to take a chance on a potential staying star before the cat is out of the box.

BALLYMAC TURIN

  • Unraced August 2022 bitch making her the youngest on the catalogue. Turin is from a repeat mating of Vulturi and Ballymac Breeze, making her a full-sister to Ballymac Wild. In her first ever 525y trial on Monday morning at Tralee, Turin impressed as she got the better of a litter comrade in 2992. A promising first mark, there cannot be a more raw pup available for purchase and if claimed at the right price then Turin could turn out the bargain of the sales.

TOMMYS HEIRESS

  • Full-sister to Tommys Victory detailed earlier. This Unraced April 2022 bitch bred by Burgess Bucks and Droopys Sim had her first ever qualifying 525 trial at the start of the month in Cork where she excelled to stop the clock in 2916. For just a 17 months old lady, you don’t get many better first marks and she looks like a bitch destined for open class.

INTELLIGENT LAD

  • July 2021 Droopys Sydney dog who looks an exciting dog over the extended trips. Untested yet over anything more than 525y, this 83lb brother to Irish Derby dark horse Clonroosk Sydney has been running on strongly in all his runs whilst still possessing the raw pace to do 2885 SPK. His most impressive performance was on debut when winning by 12.5L at Galway in 2893 and this looks a dog to run on Mondays at Nottingham or Sundays at Towcester.

POMBA PETE

  • November 2021 dog who’s ran just 1 race in his life where he was a 4L 2nd behind a 2890 winner at Clonmel. Recording 2918, this graduate of the Ian Greaves academy looks open to all sorts of improvement and with 480m his minimal trip, he could prove a bargain for those on the lookout for a greyhound to run at the likes of Hove.

SWANLEY BOLT

  • November 2021 dog by Good News out of 2810 SPk performer Swanley Chick. Despite still being a puppy, Bolt has run 12 times to date with a best time recorded of 2903 at SPK. One who will still improve, he looks like the type who you can’t go wrong with and will provide plenty of fun for owners through the UK grades.

SWANLEY PETUNIA

  • Litter sister to Swanley Bolt detailed above. Petunia is more lightly raced with just 4 runs to her name. At Dundalk she won an A7  by over 6L in 2940 and at SPK she was caught in a very hot A4 race where she still clocked a career best 2913. Similarly to her brother, she looks the nice type to advance through the UK grading system.

RANESRATH FINN

  • Unraced April 2022 baby who had his first official 525 around Kilkenny last week where he completed the course in 2966. A notoriously tough venue for pups, make no mistake this was a good run and for what could be small money you could find yourself going a lot worse than taking a chance on this son of Burgess Bucks.

GLENGAR FURY

  • Unraced May 2022 dog by Ballymac Wild out of former Race of Champions winner Killinan Rosie. From a kennel on the rise in the breeding game with Singalong Sally, Glengar Bale and now Glengar Elvis making his mark in the game, there will be no doubting that Fury has been raised and schooled to the very highest standard from the Tipperary home of Pat Buckley. Unfortunately, not all make it to open class standard and there is a rush to make room for the next crop at home. Albeit, Fury will prove a genuine greyhound with plenty of running left him in on the back of his 3049 trial at Limerick.

VOLTAGE ECHO

  • September 2021 bitch who is already performing to credit on the UK grading circuit at Romford. On Monday just gone, Echo was runner-up in an A6 affair recording a respectable 2473. Very lightly raced, there is plenty of fun to be had with a bitch that comes without the transportation or registration costs.

UNNAMED BITCH

  • An unnamed Burgess Bucks x Yahoo Amelia January 2022 bitch who has that little done with her that she is still to be named. Coming off the schooling tracks and straight into unofficial sprints, this bitch won’t reach the highest levels of the game but will provide new owners plenty of fun at some of the shorter venues across the UK.
