The staring points has to be Paul Hennessy’s success with Jaytee Jet (formerly Courtlough Cindy) in the Irish Oaks at Shelbourne Park. The second nomination at the same track goes to Islandbridge Sprint winner Rosbirr Ranger.
The other major decider was the Red Mills Champion Unraced at Kilkenny where Cushie Jet was turned over at 4-6f in a race won by the impeccably bred Ballymac Tabor. Staying on the subject of unraced pups, there was also a fine run by puppy Magical Logan in the Kasco Unraced at Thurles
Meanwhile at Limerick, four year old Crohane Ronnie turned over classic winner Good New and Clonbrien Hero to win the €4,000 Golden Muzzle. At Cork, the near four year old Ballymac Sarahjo went quickest in the Barrys Tea 750.
At Drumbo, it is impossible to separate Toolmaker Maxwel in the Ulster Puppy Cup and the similarly aged Glenanne in a separate bitch stake. At Clonmel, Uncle Wexford went the fastest of the Produce Stakes semi finalists. Coolowen Thor became the first runner in 2018 to break 29.00 at Youghal.
Finally – the performance of the week goes to Derry’s Farran Toner on her second race back after a LONG lay-off. Her previous outing was in August 2014.
