The big stakes are coming thick and fast and none bigger than the €80,000 McManus Memorial at Limerick which went to the impressive Droopys Davy.
It is a long overdue victory for dam Droopys Loner who reached six Cat 1 finals, including two English Oaks, without winning a big one (she was runner-up in an Arc and a Golden Sprint).
The weekend’s other major event was the final of the Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne, which went to Boom Time and the semis of the GAIN 600 where Droopys Dargle was quickest on the clock. Swiss Storm recorded the fastest 550 of the year t Tralee in the opening round of the prestigious Lee Strand stake.
The other big news is the return of Derry with Jaguar Jack recording the fastest over the new 500 yard course on the opening meeting. Staying in the north, there was a fine ‘fastest of week’ run by one of the youngest hounds in training, Eager Ember. September pup Cabra Hurricane did something similar at Thurles. Meanwhile Longford puppy Boynepark King clocked the fastest 525 of the year.
