The Irish racing scene is still in partial hibernation with the Gold Cup at Shelbourne the only significant stake in progress. Borna Gin and Pennylane Lucky went quickest.
With slow tracks and many of the leading stars on the sidelines, the pups feature strongly this week. The youngest of them are given a bit of leeway on times against their more experienced rivals though sometimes they don’t need it, a good example being 19 month old Shelone Iso at Limerick who recorded the fastest standard run of the week for owner Mark Lowther and trainer Pat Buckley.
The same criteria applied to Offyougo at Longford. Heidis Boyo was both the youngest and the quickest winner at Newbridge, Maysrockonruby did something identical at Waterford .
Bob The Bomber, who has been on our radar for a few weeks recorded the joint fastest time at Mullingar, when completing a four-timer. A great advert for his young sire Adageo Bob who stands at stud in England..
The performance of the week though, and one for the notebook must by Rural Brae, a half brother to Rural Hawaii, who went quickest at Clonmel last week in 28.82 – on his racing debut.
