The week starts as ever at Shelbourne and nominations for Whoops Jack in the Gold Collar at Shelbourne Park and Droopys Smasher in the marathon competition.
We also have a double nomination at Cork. The first goes to Grand National semi final winner Broadstrand Vinny whose track record over the 525H course was only two spots slower than the fastest flat time, plus a a very decent run over the 550 course, given the time of year and going, for puppy Diamond Steel. Unable to separate two winners in identical times in a tri-distances event at Lifford, we have no option other than to nominate both.
In other major stakes, puppy Cash is King surely gets the overall nomination for Ireland’s outstanding performance of the week in the Kingdom Derby at Tralee. Butterbridge Bex dominated the Gain Southern Sprint at Youghal.
It might not quite have been the quickest run of the week, nevertheless Battstreet Eva produced the best overall performance in an unraced stake at Enniscorthy – litter comrade Gemsons Coco was only a length slower.
Sometimes fast runs can only be spotted by comparison. 28.75 may be some way off the fastest time of the year at Galway, but the run by Roshill Lola was still half a second quicker than the week’s next best.
