The big event of the weekend was the €7,500 Shelbourne Champion 550 decider when 16-1 shot Ballyhimikin Rex ran a game front running race and held on for a deserved half length victory over the strong finishing favourite Bens Teddy.
In the first round of the Oaks, Up The Style was reckoned to be the biggest danger to ante post favourite Bobsleigh Dream in heat seven. The unfortunate Style was knocked over but the heat, in the fastest of the night, went to sister Undisputed. A mere seven winners for Droopys Sydney on the twelve race card.
At Kilkenny, ‘Droopys’ hounds were again very much to the fore in the Champion Unraced Stake. Last week’s ‘stand-out’ Droopys Doughnut had to do it the hard way, hence a slightly slower, 28.72. But quickest on the clock was Carrick Fergus (aka Droopys Etcetera) with a 28.58 run.
Blastoff Chase was the quickest of the Lee Stand semi final winners at Tralee with a 29.59 run for the 550 yard course.
At Clonmel, only two hounds broke 29.00 during the last week, Splendid Janey (28.79) and litter brother Splendid Fellow (28.89). While at Thurles, Bogger Dusty improved on his own FOY with a 28.94 run.
