The big surprise of the weekend was the defeat of Magical Poppy in the Corn Cuculainn Final, the winner being Peter Divilly’s Crafty Kokorro. It was also a memorable night for sire Droopys Sydney with eight of the ten winners.
Of all the Irish runners who didn’t make the trip for the English Derby, few would have had better credentials than kennelmates Good Cody and Explosive Boy who both contested Tuesday’s €20K to winner Dundalk International. It was the latter who came out on top in the fastest 550 since Kilmacdonagh’s 29.42 back in 2019.
Coincidentally, nothing has gone quicker over Cork’s 550 trip since Kilmacdonagh’s 29.12 in June 2019. The closest came on Saturday night when Dave Firmager’s Jan ‘21 pup Romeo Command went around Curraheen Park course in 29.41.
