The last time that 32.00 was breached for 600 yards at Shelbourne Park was seven years ago when Laughil Duke set a new track record of 31.91. On Saturday night, the brilliant Fast Fit Paddy landed the Open 600 (the race some of us probably still think as the ‘Guinness 600’) in a phenomenal 31.96.
The 82lb dark brindle is owned by John Quinn and well know Aussie, Paul Horig, and trained by Declan McDonagh.
On the same card there was a fabulous run from the Dolores Ruth trained Maries Wedding in the Puppy Oaks. The brindle is a litter sister to the exciting Ballymac Finn, mentioned last week
There were four fabulous third round heats of the Kirby Memorial but none shone brighter than Pat Guilfoyle’s Magical Kuba. The 78lb black finally got a clear run in his sixth race – it was his second win – and clocked a flying 28.02 for Limerick’s standard trip. It was the fastest run since Ballymac Tas’ 27.97 recorded back in 20.19
There was also a particularly impressive 17.46 run by Flashing Willow at Cork. Only Skylight Bandit (17.44) went quicker in all of 2021
