History was made at Shelbourne Park when the remarkable Susie Sapphire landed her sixth race in a row to go unbeaten in the Boylesports Irish Derby and add the biggest prize in Irish racing to the Oaks and Puppy Oaks.
Think of some of the greatest female ever to grace the track, from any era: Itsamint, Prairie Peg, Nameless Pixie, The Other Toss, Penny County, Spring Time, Tina Marina, Quick Suzy, Itsmaint, Yale Princess . . .no bitch has ever previously won the Irish Derbv and Oaks.
Clocking a PB for course and distance, it was Susie’s 12th win in 19 races and the Irish Track Greyhound of the Year title is now a formality.
In fact, it was a very good night for the ladies with Singalong Sally taking the runner-up spot and Skywalker Cilla landing the consolation. Other fine performances on the night included a FOY for Auxerre over the 575 trip and a joint quickest 525 for Rural Star.
Meanwhile at Limerick, Jaytee Japan landed the Irish Cesarewitch.
