The Irish scene is obviously dominated by the Derby and one performance stood out above all others. Jackslittlething, who had gone quicker than Champion Stakes winner De Machine when winning the Champion Plate (29.31/29.41), went even quicker with a 29.10 run on Saturday.
It made him the quickest of all Graham Holland’s dogs over the Derby course and joint fifth fastest ever. Derby favourite Explosive Boy was fastest of the Friday heats.
The fastest time of the week at Kilkenny was a 28.83 run, but the youngest winner was Da Big Oh with a 29.07 (-20), from one of the earliest litter by Ballyanne Sim. While 16 month old Kilbride Ruby was the youngest and fastest winner at Mullingar in the last seven days. There is a similar story for Cresent Tibet at Thurles, though the 31.45/570 run of Canya Goforit deserves mention.
Although the Newbridge 575 trip isn’t a regular distance, the 31.30 run by Glencorbry Duke was still the fastest in 12 years. There was also a FOY for Waterford’s six bends from Barro Chief. (A Dorotas Wildcat January pup Tame Blackberry clocked the week’s fastest 525).
Last but not least, a 28.17/525 for Feora Chris at Tralee, the fastest run over course and distance since Curious Boy’s 2016 track record of 28.05.
