Given the success of their raiders there are plenty of Irish eyes on the English Derby at present, though the action back in Dublin has been pretty special too with Ballymac Arminta going to within a neck of Paradise Madison’s Shelbourne 525 clock in the Irish Oaks semis while Ardnasool Jet took five spots off his own sprint track record to win the Islandbridge Sprint.
But there has been plenty of action ‘down country’ too including the final of the prestigious Red Mills Unraced at Kilkenny which went to the dog who lit up the first round with a 28.70 run and started favourite for the final, Ballymac Cooper. Sunday also featured the quarter finals of the Produce Stakes at Clonmel where Graham Holland sent out three winners, including the young and quickest on the night, Riverside Leo.
At Cork, Spoofer broke 28.00 though the nomination goes to 20 month old puppy Bower Laura for a very quick sprint. Over four bends, Black Buzzer produced the FOY at Newbridge. There is a double nomination at Waterford, it being impossible to split the fastest sprint of the year by Rossbirr Ranger and the 28.46 run by November pup Waikiki Lad.
