Just two and a half weeks away from the start of the Irish Derby so no surprise that Shelbourne was buzzing with fast times over the weekend. The 32.40 win over 600y from Ballinabola Jim was not the quickest in terms of pure time but given that it was in the final of the Yvonne Barry Final, it wins the award for this week.
It was a tight call at Tralee where Ballymac Wendy‘s 28.21 just edged things. She has a real affinity for the Kingdom Stadium, picking up six of her seven career wins there. She won the award over former winner Daleroad Devon who extended the perfect start to his racing career to 6/6.
Youngest on the list this week is Droopys Roar. A litter brother to Romford Puppy Cup runner-up Untold Rufiyaa, it was his first run at Dundalk and a maiden-breaking effort. He has kept some smart company, runner-up in the final of the This Runs Deep Unraced at Shelbourne in July.
Romeo Taylor booked his place in the final of the Bar One Laurels on Saturday night. His 28.41 was a single spot quicker than the other semi-final winner Crafty Shivoo. That sets things up perfectly for the final at the weekend which hopefully lives up to the expectations of this clash.
