It is hard not to be drawn to Callaway Knegare as a dog. He showed at Shelbourne on Saturday when he won the Time Juvenile Derby that he can do it from behind as well as he can from the front. Having got checked at the second bend, to produce 27.96 was stunning. He is the new Irish Derby favourite and that trip can suit better. He has the all around gears to take that next step and rates one of the most promising prospects on either side of the Irish Sea.
His litter brother makes the list as well this week. That is Droopys Maximus who produced the best time at Waterford, 28.44. A 28.52 winner on his race debut last week, he should have plenty of progression to come given his completely unexposed profile.
Three weeks on from equalling his own Tralee track record, Tuono Charlie was at it again, this time at Limerick. He took 35 spots off the old 750y record in the first round of the Irish Cambridgeshire. On his way to doing so, he ran 27.81 to the 525y split. That is two spots inside the current 525y track record albeit from the other side of the track!
There was a fastest of the year over 525y at Kilkenny. Julies Gem signed off with a 28.59 in her final run as a puppy. She is a litter sister to Droopys Extragud who has made a string of finals for Heather Dimmock this year.
Cabra Keiser clocked the fastest sprint time of the year at Thurles with a 17.54 run. That is just seven spots off the track record set in 2017. Tempestade at Clonmel and Kilbride Tomcat at Mullingar made it back-to-back weeks at the top, the latter joined on 29.26 by Home Ciara.
