What a week!
Flying times everywhere as the opening round of the Bar One Sprint and Willwego.com Irish St Leger were run.
We witnessed new figures set at Dundalk and the three quickest times of the year over the 550y distance at Limerick.
Add to that the 28-second barrier being beaten three times on Saturday night at Shelbourne and it was a great seven days of racing in Ireland. Let’s recap the top times of the week.
Broadstrand Syd didn’t so much set a new track record in the Bar One Sprint as annihilate it. Taking 16 spots off any clock is some run but to do it in a sprint…sensational! It was not as if he beat a weak heat either. Road Exile and Ballinakill Alf who chased him home are very smart types in their own right.
A slow start cost Unanimouspanther in the Time International the week before. He made no mistake at Limerick on Saturday, producing a time that has scarcely been seen in the past decade. To find the dogs who have gone quicker, read Sunday round up.
Shelbourne had slick times over the weekend. Arent We All gets the nod here but it would’ve gone to Callaway Knegare and a 27.79 trial if those counted! Fastnet Breeze excelled at Clonmel with a time just nine spots off the Produce Stakes winning Unanimouspanther’s time last month. A pup with three wins in his last four, the penny has dropped in recent starts.
