The action in Ireland has been red-hot once more this week with further track records falling.
Da Bold Falcon lowered a record that had stood for almost nine years at Shelbourne on Saturday night. 600 yards is an iconic distance at the track and new figures for it is a performance well deserving of the accolade.
There was a staying track record at Tralee where Tuono Charlie allowed Droopys Comrade just 15 minutes as the track record holder. Charlie obliterated the clock, taking 79 spots off the newly set time.
Unanimouspanther was only a few spots off the clock at Limerick. The Willwego.com St Leger is coming to the boil nicely with the Clonmel Produce Stakes winner leading the charge. At the very peak of his game at present, he has the size to still do better yet.
At Drumbo Park, Pyro Man set the seventh quickest time of the year over 335 yards. That is a smart effort in itself but consider that it came from a March 23 puppy having just the second race of his life. That makes it all the more impressive. He looks an absolute bargain at the 1,500 he cost at the Kilkenny sales in mid-June.
Another unexposed sprinter is Daleroad Devon who also has just two races on his card. He produced a flying 17.51 at Tralee on his race debut and then clocked 17.56 at Thurles last week. Out of Mystical Luna, he is a half-brother to Juvenile Derby runner-up Short Grip and Grouchos Duke who dipped under 29 seconds at Towcester when a Derby quarter-finalist.
