Greyhound of the Year Ice On Fire has failed in his attempted return from a gracilis injury and has been retired to stud.
A distraught trainer Jimmy Fenwick said: “I have spoken to Dave Spraggon this morning and the decision has been made. He went very well in his trial to the third bend last night but then came off with a bleed to the damaged muscle.
“We had been fully aware that it that was the happen, it was all over.”
