More than 150 family and friends of Terry Corden, plus half a dozen greyhounds, turned out for his service at the Wilford Hill Crematorium on Wednesday afternoon.
The attendance was so huge that crowds over-spilled into the lobby/vestibule and outside into the grounds for the hour long service taken by Reverend David Ness. The congregation were treated to an amazing eulogy recalling Terry’s values, interests and loves. It was followed by a touching tribute by daughter Rachel who reflected on Terry’s great kindness, determination and sense of humour, noting he had hoped to hold the service on a Monday night at the track in order to boost the tote.
The congregation included representatives of the industry’s hierarchy, fellow promoters, the betting industry, the press, and a swathe of local owners and trainers who simply wanted to pay their respects. There was a significant Irish contingent including the Golden based pair of Pat Dalton and Graham Holland.
Holland said simply: “I used to have dogs for Terry, but that is not why I am here. I would have come anyway; he was just a great bloke who absolutely loved greyhound racing and did so much for the sport.”
