Owner-trainer Ian Aylward will be concentrating on Wimbledon following the victory of his Baliff Hubert in the William Hill Derby “Win and You’re In” Trial Stakes at Belle Vue. The dog recovered well from a poor start, took control with a strong run up the back straight, and maintained his gallop to beat Killmagner Mike by a length in a calculated 28.05 (-15) for the 470 metres.
Reporting the dog fine this morning, Aylward added: “I was over the moon with the run and I will be focusing on Wimbledon with him. I shall be on the phone to the track looking for a trial a week on Saturday and will keep taking him down there, but I believe that it is a track that will suit him. The main problem now is to sort out his trapping. He fell out of the boxes again at Belle Vue and you can’t keep getting away with that.”
But the Wrexham-baes handler is also having to deal with the blow that his smart sprinter Baliff Cairo is injured again. Last year’s Scurry Cup suffered another muscle injury when contesting his heat of the sprint competition at Kinsley on Sunday and the dog’s future must be in doubt.
