It was in late 1980 that Hove switched from 500 metres to 515m by moving the winning line closer to the first bend.
The first trial session over the new 500 metre course took place this morning with Feora Smallinish clocking the quickest time of the session, 29.99 on going rated .30 slow.
The first race over the distance, an A1 graded event takes place tomorrow with the winner, temporarily at least, being designated the track record holder.
Of course the, the Rees family may just have a view on the imposter. For all although Richard Rees has nothing in the line-up, he might be waiting to see if the winner beats the 28.96 run recorded by his late father Philip’s Mondays Bran – back in 1979.
