Limerick is proving a lucky county for Brendan Matthews as a week after his Irish Cup triumph at the city’s racecourse he was back at the track with Hoodwinked, who clocked the best time of the night in the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial over 525 yards.

The son of Foleys Folly made every yard to record 28.37sec.

Kennelmate and litter brother Leave at Dawn landed the opening qualifier in 28.58sec.

Clonmel Unraced Stake winner Ballydoyle Honey landed the second heat easily in 28.58sec. His trainer Graham Holland was also on the mark with Rural Hawaii, who landed heat nine in 28.55sec.

Owen McKenna’s Farloe Hunter impressed in the seventh qualifier when pulling clear off the penultimate turn to score in 28.46sec.

Other winners were Bruno Ya Know (28.98sec), Cabra Mufasa (28.98sec), Droopys Braedon (28.63sec), Hawkthorn Rumble (28.78sec), Go Ahead (28.91sec), black Tom (28.86sec) and Cunning Barney with 28.70sec.
