Scaglietti, a leading contender for the recent Boylesports Irish Derby – 29.26, 29.26, 29.27 – until eliminated in the fourth round, is to join trainer Ricky Holloway having been sold in the Greyhoundtrader on-line auction for £45,100. He is a 66-1 chance for the 2024 English Derby.
Elsewhere in the auction, March 2022 bitch Lucky Chloe sold for £10,000 to British Breeding hero David Titterton. A winning 28.73 debut performance at Tralee was enough to convince the former footballer, and she will head to Perry Barr trainer Ian Walker with a likely challenge at the Bet365 Puppy Oaks on the cards.
Recent 28.23 Cork trialist State Mint sold for £9200 to join the training ranks at Romford, whilst the Ballymac Cooper x Ballymac Merkle younger sister to St Leger hopefuls Ballymac Katie, Ballymac Taylor and Garfiney Blaze sold for just over £6000 to Kevin Hutton. Amazing Quest was another greyhound popular within the auction platform. With his away and gone style, the £4400 purchase will continue his career at Romford for trainer Darren Whitton.
With further sales post-auction, Greyhound Trader confirmed it was a record sales for them. James Corden said “I’m delighted with how it went, and also that it is now over! Scaglietti of course was the talking point of the weekend and some late bids saw his value rise over £45,000 which is incredible. Hopefully there are people who see this and we can get more greyhounds of this quality in the future auctions.
Keep an eye out also for Pape Di Oro who will no doubt be a good open racer heading to the UK, whilst Ballymac Madgie and Ballymac Bingley are two young greyhounds who might not hit the track until next year but will hopefully turn into nice types.”
With sales totalling in excess of £100,000 – there is clearly life left in our old sport yet!
