The shocks continued in the Dandelion Bar & Nightclub Easter Cup when the new ante-post favourite Droooys Nidge was eliminated from the semi-finals over 550 yards at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.
Following on from last week when the Irish Derby winner Laughil Blake bit the dust, Droopys Nidge was in serious trouble around the opening turn and he never recovered.
It was left to Race of Champions winner Sidarian Blaze and Slippery Fred, who clocked a flying 29.48 in the opening round, to fight it out up front with Graham Holland’s Sidarian Blaze prevailing by a neck in 29.93sec.
Holland had a double when his Coren Sky landed the second semi-final. The Ace Hi Rumble dog was soon clear but was all out to hold off Laughil Blake’s half-brother Laughil Duke by a head in 29.87sec.
