Swift Hoffman’s brilliant RPGTV Derby has earned Paul Scott’s dog the Greyhound of the Month accolade for April.
His three and a quarter-length defeat of last year’s Oaks heroine Cashen Maureen made him a very popular choice with the Greyhound Writers’ Association, whose votes placed him well clear of his rivals in the race for the GBGB-sponsored trophy.
And trainer Pat Rosney was a very happy man when told of the award, saying: “Scottish Derby final night was the most memorable night that my partner Julie (McCombe) have ever had and now to get this award for that performance, that really tops it off nicely. I am absolutely delighted and I know that Paul will feel the same way.
“All of our William Hill Derby dogs are trialling before racing at Wimbledon tonight to give them one last look at the track, which I think Hoffman needs more than the others as he has still not taken to the traps there, and I just hope that we don’t get drawn in Wednesday’s first round heats.”
