The voting panel of the Greyhound Writers’ Association had him at the top of their list for his performances in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore where he won all three rounds and the GBGB-backed award couldn’t have come at a better time with owner Paul Scott recovering from a stroke.
It was the second time that the dog has lifted the trophy, he was the No.1 choice back in April following his triumph in the Scottish Derby in Glasgow, and trainer Pat Rosney was delighted at the news, saying: “I know that this will be a real tonic for Paul and help in his recovery. He loves his greyhounds and is always coming to see them and this can only help.
A victory for Swift Hoffman in the North East Category One competition would also help the cause and Rosney is hopeful, saying: “The dog trialled to my satisfaction at Newcastle on Friday and is well. We will just have to see how it goes.”
