Swift Hoffman gave Pat Rosney his third win in the Betfred Select Stakes over 500 metres at Nottingham on Tuesday.
The Preston handler won the race previously with Windy Millar and Dairyland Sue and completed the treble with the son of Makeshift who made just about all the running to slam Derby third Eden The Kid by almost five lengths in 29.20sec, the second fastest time ever at the track and half a length off the track record.
Rosney said afterwards: “There were a lot of people saying trials for show and races for dough after he has twice dipped inside the record, but we got the dough tonight.
“He’s a super dog and was only half a length off the track record.
“He loves Nottingham and these stiff four bend trips are for perfect for him. On the right track, he’s as good as anything.”
On future plans, Rosney didn’t rule out a crack over six bends. He says: “I wouldn’t discount it. He’s a strong running dog.
“The St Leger is a race Paul Scott the owner would love to win. He was second a few years ago with Bower Hawk.
“I have no plans to take him over the Shelbourne for the Irish Derby but could go there for something like the Night of Stars. I may bring him back here for the Eclipse.”
Rosney was also on the mark with Camp Joker in the Betfred Puppy Stakes over 500 metres.
Hell Letloose led until the last turn but Camp Joker was too strong and got up to score by three quarters of a length in 28.63sec.
Rosney said: “He proved he stays okay so we’ll aim him at the Puppy Classic here in August.”
Milwards Teddy landed the Betfred Select Stayers Stakes over 730 metres.
Dean Childs’ runner was only fifth at the halfway point as Farley Rio led the field but he came through a the firth turn, where kennelmate and favourite Droopys Cottage got held up, to eventually beat local runner Alma Prince by two and a half lengths in 44.56sec.
Childs said: “People are quick to write this dog off but he ran a blinder tonight. He didn’t really stay as well as he should have done last week but he kept on well tonight when it mattered.”
“We plan on defending our Doncaster St Leger Crown with him and going back to Wimbledon for the St Leger.”
Alma Valentine landed the Betfred Mobile Lotto Ladies Trophy over 500 metres.
Alec Stones bitch led and came again to hold Aero Babooshka by half a length in 29.87sec.
Some Turbo landed a scrappy Betfred Mobile Gents Trophy over 500 metres.
Kathryn Harris’s dog was only fourth at the turn but emerged in second off the second bend and led off the last bend to beat Quick Impact by three lengths in 29.77sec.
Target Harris, fresh from his record breaking performance at Crayford, landed the Betfred Sprint over 305 metres.
Hayley Keightley’s dog was soon clear and came home almost three lengths clear of Baliff Hubert in a fast 17.48sec.
Mark Keightley said afterwards: ““When he traps level he runs riot. We’ll run him in the Pinpoint Race over 435 metres at Pelaw in a few weeks’ time.”
Keightley had a double with Roxholme Scolari, who justified favouritism in the Betfred Puppy Maiden Trophy over 480 metres.
He led off the third turn to beat Malbay Balotelli by almost two lengths in 28.96sec.
Aayamzamodel led off the third turn in the Betfred Stayers Stakes to hold off the persistent challenge of Moss Lane Sue by half a length in 41.47sec.
Calzaghe George landed the Betfred Proud Sponsors of the Eclipse Stakes Trophy over 480 metres.
Ted Soppitt’s runner was soon clear and went on to beat Southfield Noir by two lengths in 28.79sec.
