Newcastle boss Ian Walton was “delighted with the quantity and quality” of entries for the BGBF British Bred Northern Plate which gets underway on Thursday night.
The event was open to 36 home bred entries and attracted 45. As promised, Liz McNair entered a powerful team headed by multi group one winner King Turbo and Produce Stakes winner King Sheeran, supported by Kings Idol, Cash and Lennon and Queen Cher.
Walton said: “But we also have Harry Williams three ‘Ponds’, Adonis, Ricardo and Natalya. Then you have Witton Derecho, Sharpys Pluto, who ran very well here last week, Raise The Stakes, who trialled in 28.50 some recent open winners like Bliss and some decent local graded dogs.
“It is a good split too. We have been quite strict on seeding and have ended up with 15 railers, 14 middles and 7 wides.”
The £7,500 to winner competition should see the start of some top class racing in the North East.
The track are hoping to announce the dates of the All England Cup and Northern Puppy Derby by the end of the week. Trainers are advised to pencil-in early October.
Walton said: “Hopefully the track experience from running in the Northern Plate will encourage some of the runners to be back for the All England Cup
