The six bend debut of the brilliant Forest Sara and two fastest times of the year were the highlights of Sunday night’s Henlow card.
The Henlow Derby fifth, who had never been beyond 515m previously, went to traps as a 4-7f in a 550 maiden of particularly high quality. She was opposed by Farran Sexton (29.89 Notts 500m) last time out and the fastest runner over Yarmouth’s 462m this year, Droopys Scion.
Kevin Hutton’s favourite flashed out and seemed to have a winning lead following an 8.84 sectional, but Yarmouth regulars would be fully aware of Scion’s staying ability and Jim Daly’s 4-1 chance failed by only half a length to catch the 33.40 (N) winner.
Sara’s time was bettered by another Yarmouth based runner Urban Road who beat Coolavanny Ester by four plus lengths in 33.38. Ray Pleasants’ veteran is an almost certain Gold Cup runner, as is Westmead Becky (5-1) who caused a huge shock when turning over Jet Stream Sound, in another 33.40. The night’s other two 550s went to Behind Blue Eyes (33.58) and Mays Stardust (33.60).
The meeeting kicked off with a ‘fastest 428 of year’ for Steve Fletcher’s Sonic Boom Boy (Ace Hi Rumble-Fernhill Jess, Jul 13) with a 25.66 open race victory. (The fastest 428 last year was Aero Babooshka’s 25.53).
Meanwhile over the 692m, Savana Jack (Kinloch Brae-Midway Skipper, Oct 12) completed a hat-trick in a ‘FOY’ 42.54, just six spots off his personal best, and also the fastest over course and distance last year.
