Farran Heaslip boosted his prospects for Sheffield’s Pinpoint Three Steps To Victory, which starts next month, with a determined victory in the Stadium Puppy 500 at Owlerton on Tuesday that saw him battle his way from last to first in the second half of the contest.
The Pat Rosney-trained youngster showed the mark of a stayer as he reeled in Glenpadden Oak in the final strides of the race to claim a short head success in 29.03, a win that even had his experienced handler blinking in disbelief.
He says: “He missed the break and got himself into an impossible position and I just didn’t think that he could win it in running. But he seems to be learning with every race now and we will be back at Sheffield again next week for another puppy race for him.”
