It’s a long way to travel for Angela Harrison and her super team of staff for nearly any event which they decide to target with their top class team of greyhounds.  The journey to Romford from their base in Alnwick , Northumberland is just about one of the longest journeys any kennel in the country could decide to undertake.  When you have greyhound’s in the kennel of the calibre of Coolavanny Aunty and Coolavanny Bani , bred by Noel Browne in Castleisland , Ireland then you simply must travel to the competitions that suit your ultra talented greyhounds.  The distance between the Harrison kennel in Alnwick and Romford stadium is 316.7 miles.  By the time Coolavanny Aunty got home in the early hours of last night she’d travelled 2533.6 miles in her efforts to become Coral Essex Vase Champion of 2022.  The £10,000 winners prize will have been well received but also will have been much needed to in anyway justify the effort put in by the whole team.  With Coolavanny Bani finishing runner up the drive home North will likely have felt a fair bit shorter than any of the previous trips the team have made in recent weeks.

Assistant trainer Jimmy Wright said “It was a fabulous night , we didn’t get home until 3.15am but it’s a nice journey home when you’ve had a winner.  I was so impressed with how brave Aunty was around the first two bends.  The dog on her outside must be over 35 kilo and could easily have put a bitch with a little less heart under pressure.  Aunty was having none of it though.  We don’t have any firm plans going forward , we’ll see how she comes out of the race and what’s been a tough few weeks , she’ll have a deserved rest for a few weeks and then make a decision.  The Derby is a possibility eventually as we know how well she runs Towcester”.
