GBGB trainers rep Pete Harnden is asking owners and trainers to get in touch as he prepares a case for the review of the rules for ‘deliberate interference’.
He said: “When I first put the idea forward for an appeals procedure, I originally thought it had been dismissed out of hand and was fuming to be honest. I have discussed it with Peter Cadman who is in charge of the rules and regulations committee and he assured me that it wasn’t.
“I know some people will say, ‘Nottingham are letting cleared disqualified dogs from appearing in the Derby, so what is your problem?‘
“It is a much bigger issue than that as Peter Cadman is the first to acknowledge. For a start there are huge variations in the numbers of disqualifications between one track and another. There appears to be different interpretations as to whether to disqualify or mark ‘awkward’. Some tracks might be too tough on pups, but others might be too lenient and not taking responsibility.
“I can only be aware of a few tracks and I would be keen to hear from any owners or trainers who have experienced problems with the rule and the interpretation.”
