Harlow are eight days away from joining the RPGTV cast with a new Tuesday fixture and racing manager Mark Schellenberg admits that runner numbers will be a big factor.
He said: “We have about 100 dogs available for grading so we will try to fill as many opens as possible on the Tuesdays. They are all worth £175 to the winner, £30 others. All the opens will close the previous Friday lunchtime and I am hoping that trainers will use us (and the Bramich hare) to give their dogs a change. Certainly a lot of the Romford dogs won on their return after a visit here.
“If we don’t fill the opens, then the decisions are down to Dave (Barclay, promoter), but we might have to consider dropping the Friday meetings and just race Tuesday/Saturday. Friday nights are very average at this time of the year anyway, and it is easier to manage a racing strength, at least in the short term, with that schedule.”
