The Greyhound Forum, a welfare umbrella organisation whose membership includes the majority of the major animal charities, have commended the introduction of the GBGB’s Code of Practise. Their statement reads:
Welfare members of the Greyhound Forum warmly welcome the publication of the GBGB’s Code of Practice. This follows the British Standards Institute’s Publicly Accessible Standard but is a far more comprehensive and comprehensible publication.
Commenting on the news, Chairman of the Greyhound Forum, Clarissa Baldwin said “. Racing greyhounds spend the majority of their life in trainers’ premises therefore it is imperative that they receive the best welfare possible both at and away from the track and whether or not they are racing. The Code is the written demonstration of this. Putting the words into practice will not be easy, it will largely depend on having sufficient Stipendiary Stewards who are properly trained to recognise all the welfare facets of this Code “.
“Bringing this to a satisfactory conclusion will inevitably mean that racing greyhounds will enjoy a far more fulfilled life” concludes Clarissa “ but once again we appeal to the Bookmakers to help in funding this important aspect”
